She had a sparkle in her eye,
She had an infectious laugh,
She wore Roses in her hair,
Always encouraging all her daughters to do the same.
She never talked of how hard she worked to support 6 children during the toughest of economic times. Sometimes my dad did not know if there would be enough to eat or had pants that fit properly. However, the six of them had enough thanks to this beautiful strong woman, my grandmother.
She helped raise grandchildren and a daughter with mental disability. This daughter was by her side and guided with such gentle loving grace by my grandmother. She always did everything with optimism, incredible strength and without complaint. Her faith was always by her side. I was fortunate enough to witness and learn from her on our visits to India.
She taught my father all of these values and often encouraged him to loosen up a bit more in life. That piece of advice always makes me smile. She made sure my mom knew she was valued in this family she married into. I was in awe of how little she had and how much she truly lived.
My grandmother, LilaBa, with a rose that forever bloomed in her gorgeous hair of curls. I hope to capture her bouquet in life.
